A distinguishing characteristic of the Japanese Budo is the way that they must be conveyed in a ‘hands on’ way. Scrolls, written instructions and even modern-day video are purely supplemental. The Budo are taught, at the higher levels at least, the same way all classical arts of Japan have been taught for centuries. Only by ‘sharing shadows’ with one’s master, by training closely with them for a long time, can the student begin to truly aquire their own skill.

Sometimes trying harder just doesn’t cut it. What can you change inside to affect your experience with the outside. This is often a hard lesson to learn in Martial Training (budogeiko) and a harder one to learn in business, success and life.
News headlines this morning: Father kills son in anger, 14 year old school girl charged with violence against another student on school grounds, update about the gang rape of a teenager. Seriously. If you are a parent, please teach and MODEL to your children the importance of compassion, restraint, communication, understanding, empathy and forgiveness. If you can’t or don’t know how, love them enough to find out.
Sometimes it’s easy to get bogged down by details that have little or nothing to do with the important things. Sometimes arguing or pursuing a point is detrimental. It’s always good to ‘check in’ with yourself every now and then and remind yourself of what you love or care about, what you need and what you want. If your chosen path is not developing that vision, then best to change direction.
